In year 6, we have been learning all about light and how we see. We started by discussing how light travels and we conducted an experiment to test this theory. We lined up pieces of card with holes in and shone a torch through; this showed us that light appears to travel in straight lines. As well as this, we studied the eye and how it enables us to see.
After learning about how light reflects off certain objects more than others, such as mirrors, we started learning about shadows. We discussed what a shadow is and how the lengths of shadows change depending on the time of day and the position of the earth in relation to the sun. We then made predictions about the shadows different objects would cast. Following this, we observed the shadows that were cast by different objects outside and discussed our findings.
