Living Things and their Habitats

We had a great first science lesson. This half term we are thinking about living things and their habitats. We talked about what how we know if something is living and then we went searching for living things and non-existent living things. Here are some that we found below!

Another amazing science lesson today! We talked about habitats and whether an animal choosing where it would like to live. We introduced the term 'adaption' and then looked at which animals live where. The children then recreated a habitat in a box and we think they look amazing!

This half term the children have been learning about Living things and their habitat. The children started off by being asked the question "What is a living thing?". The children thought that the main thing was that the living thing was breathing. We introduced MRS GREN to the children and they created lovely posters about her! The children then went on a hunt for living things. They sorted them into whether they were living things or not based on MRS GREN. 

 

We then moved on to habitats where the children were given a habitat. We discussed what living things would live in those habitats and why we thought that. The children then worked in groups to create the habitat they have been given. 

 

Also during this half term the children were looking at food chains. The children were given a range of animals and they had to decide where they would go in the food chain. The children then learnt the key words for those in a food chain and came up with some of their own. 

 

Whilst focusing on living things we thought about our impact on earth and how this is affecting living things. We looked at an experiment to show global warming and completed a graph to show our findings. We also made a poster to show how we can stop global warming!

As part of our topic, we decided to go to Tropical World. The children had the chance to look at all the living things and their habitats. It was great to hear the children having discussions using all the new vocabulary they have learned in their science lessons.
