This half term we are focusing upon gymnastics. We explored different floor skills. We looked at how we can balance on different body parts and how we can support one another to perform our balances. We learnt new moves including log roll, tuck roll, dish to arch roll and teddy bear roll. We also learnt various jumps such as tuck, star and spin jump!
We learnt how to mount and dismount the vault. This included learning how to squat on and jump off. When jumping off, we tried to perform different shaped jumps such as straddle and pike jump. Some of us even managed to try and do squat through over the vaults!
We also learnt new moves including forward roll, straddle forward roll, counter balances and cartwheels with some of us learning roundoffs as well! We used our balancing skills to perform routines on the beam and linking jumps and balances together. We were able to create our own way of travelling along the beam too.
To complete the unit, we participated in a intraclass gymnastics competition. We used our social skills to create a routine, linking the various moves we learnt within the unit together. We then performed this in groups to the class! Groups were awarded certificates by our judge for Best Teamwork, Most Improved, Most Creative and Winning Routine!
