Year 2

In Year 2 we are going to be making our own shoebox fire engine. We have learnt about wheels and axles. We know that wheels are joined together by an axle and this is what turns the wheels. We know that wheels need to be round and the same size so that a vehicle moves smoothly and in the right direction.

We have learnt that different vehicles have different types of wheels depending on their uses. We had some pictures of different vehicles and we worked in groups to sort them into different categories:

- emergency and non emergency vehicles

- cars and not cars

- 4 wheels and not 4 wheels

- road vehicles and not road vehicles

We have designed our fire engines, writing a list of materials we will need in order to make them.
Here are some of our finished designs.  We used saws to cut the dowel to make the axles.
