Clapgate Primary School
Welcome to Clapgate! My name is Natasha Singleton and I am the Headteacher at Clapgate Primary School. I hope that our website gives you a good insight into what Clapgate is all about. Of course, to really get to know us, nothing beats actually coming into school and meeting us all. All our visitors comment on the positive vibe they feel as soon as they walk through the door. However, we have tried, on our website, to capture the energy, positivity, warmth and vibrancy of our school.
We are very excited about what we can offer children and families at Clapgate. We have worked hard to develop a truly rich and broad curriculum which engages our children, gets them really excited about learning, develops their skills effectively and promotes positive values. We make sure we have lots and lots of fun and that our children are active and hands on in their learning. We nurture our children’s talents through a vast array of opportunities in music, drama, art and sport; we are currently working towards platinum Artsmark status, our end of year productions need to be seen to be believed, our whole school end of art show is a new addition to the opportunities the children get to showcase their excellence in art, and we have been awarded the Gold Gamesmark award for three years running. We place great emphasis on children’s social, emotional and mental well-being; children benefit from a therapeutic support team that provides a range of interventions such as circle times, nurture groups, life skills classes, zones of regulation, time to talk, socially speaking and friendship groups. Our emphasis on active learning and outdoor learning also contributes to the happiness and self-esteem of our children.
Children do extremely well at Clapgate and we are extremely proud that our results and progress figures at Key Stage 2 are now above local and national. We believe that all children can thrive and succeed and that with the right encouragement and teaching approaches and with a strong belief in themselves, they can make great leaps forward in their learning and achieve fantastic things.
Nothing ever stands still at Clapgate and staff are all on board with our desire to keep improving and innovating. We constantly listen to children to find out what we can do better and what would make a difference to their lives. We are also outward facing and keen to collaborate with other schools. This year, our creative learning leader and deputy head are involved in delivering training to trainee teachers across Leeds and into North Yorkshire (through the Red Kite teaching alliance) and our maths leader is leading maths network meetings across the alliance.
We hope that you find it easy to navigate your way round our website. Don’t miss the Pupdates tab (under news and events) for pictures of our new school dog and look out for the art room page for fantastic art work (under Children/Class pages). All teachers keep their own class page up to date so you can see what is happening each half term but the wider curriculum pages are also useful when you want to look at a particular subject across school. A new addition to our website is a tab to record all the lovely comments that parents and children make about our school (under News and Events, Visitor, Parent and Pupil Voice).
Visits to school are warmly welcomed. Please just pop in and ask for a tour, or ring on 0113 2716700 to make an appointment.
Should you require a disabled parking bay when visiting the school, please call ahead to the school office and this can be arranged.
