Fine motor skill activity – Pencil control patterns

Challenge your child to make patterns on pants today holding their pencil with their thumb and two fingers. First practice making lines. Practice drawing lines going vertically and then horizontally. Once your child can draw lines, practice drawing circles, emphasising how circles are round and join together. Then explore zigzags, wavy lines, turret style patterns, swirls etc.

Your child can make their patterns pants on a large or small scale. You may choose to use chalks outside on the floor or walls. You may want to use paintbrushes with buckets of water or water with glitter. The challenge this week is to help your child to hold a piece of apparatus with a pincer type grip.

If your child needs support with this activity you can draw in yellow pen/chalk for them to trace over the top of.
