Autumn 1

Year 1

Year 1 are learning how to print this half term. They have started to explore printing using some ordinary, every day objects. The children are using their new sketchbooks for the first time and are enjoying the creative process of printing and using this book to record their ideas.

Royal Portraits
The children have been learning how to create their self portrait. They created their own skin tone using powder paint. Next, they drew their self portrait on to their skin tone using oil pastels being careful to include all of their facial features and arranging them in the correct place. Finally, they had to make themselves look Royal so they added a beautiful crown with hand drawn detail and jewels. The finishing touch was a Royal ruff just like Queen Elizabeth 1 wore!

Year 3

Year 3 have begun researching mountain landscapes. They have used their sketchbooks to record their research and observations using writing and drawing. They looked at colour and texture and explored colour mixing using water colour paints.

Year 4

Year 4 are learning about the Ancient Greeks. They have started to research how they lived their lives and have looked at Greek clothing and patterns in their sketchbooks. They have experimented with making their own patterns. From these patterns they will create their own block print.

Year 5

Year 5 have been learning about the Mayan people from a long time ago. They researched the ancient civilisation using their sketchbooks and discovered that they use to wear masks for different events in life, including, battle, celebration and death. The children explored different images of masks and sketched out some of their own ideas using their sketchbooks. Next, they used their ideas and research to create a Mayan mask from clay. Here is the process so far. Well done year 5!
