Year 2

Our D.T. task for this term has been to design a vehicle with a moving part, so we have been busy making fire engines. We began with a visit from the Rothwell Fire Brigade which gave the children the chance to see a real fire engine up close! We then labelled the parts of a fire engine, before looking at wheels and axels as the moving parts. We investigated different kinds of wheel/axle combinations to see which would work most effectively. The children then worked in groups to design their fire engines. Next they constructed the fire engines out of junk and D.T. resources, making sure that they all really could move! Finally we painted them red. You can see more photos of the finished fire engines here
