The children have been testing different materials this week when deciding on the best material to use to make Santa’s Reindeers a raincoat for Christmas Eve. The children looked closely at a range of different every day materials and they spoke about the properties of each material. The children then made a prediction as to which materials they thought would be waterproof and then they had to test each material by pouting water on each one and observing if they were water resistant or absorbent. The children then recorded their findings. Well done!
This week in Science we have been learning about shadows and how they are created. First we talked about how a shadow is formed and we watched a shadow puppet performance on the computer. Then we decided to make our own shadow puppets so that we could have our own puppet show. We used coloured paper to make the puppets to ensure that no light could get through and we put our puppets onto a stick. Using torches, we shined a light on the wall and used our puppets to block the light rays. This created a shadow. We experimented with what happened when we moved the puppet closer to the light and further away. We also predicted and explored what would happen when we used translucent materials instead of opaque ones.
This week in Science the children have been learning about shadows. After learning about puppets and watching a shadow puppets performance we created our own puppets to make our own show. We explored by using different materials and made predictions about what would happen if we used translucent materials and opaque materials. The children enjoyed creating their own performance by shinning touches. We discuss what happened when we moved the touch closer or further away.
This week the children have been learning about light sources. They have been thinking about how light is created and what light sources are. They went on a light hunt around school to spot what light sources they could found. We were surprise by how many we found! We then compares the light sources using the words brightest and dullest. Well done Year 1!
This week in science we have learnt all about different sources of light. First we looked at what light is and how our eyes see it and then we explored the different sources that it can come from. We looked closely at various sources and compared them using word like ‘brightest’ and ‘dullest’. We then went on a light hunt around school and recorded the various sources of light that we found in a list.
