This week in year 1 the children have been learning all about the Story of Christmas. First we read the book 'The Nativity' and the children asked any questions that they had throughout. The children then discussed different traditions and the way people celebrate Christmas all over the world. We also learnt about different traditions that people follow around that world that are similar to Christmas. After this, we sequenced the story of The First Christmas using pictures.

This week in RE The children have been learning about Hanukkah. We learnt about the Traditional story of Hanukkah and why Jewish people celebrate this special day. We learnt that it lasted for 8 days and that it is a festival of light. We learnt about how they celebrated and what games they play. We then learnt about the food and the children had a chance to try a jam donut which is a traditional food eaten during the celebration. Yum!
This week in RE the children have learnt about the celebration of Hanukkah. The children have learnt about what religion it is celebrated in and how Hanukkah is celebrated around the world. The children learnt that the celebration lasts 8 days and that its main focus is the ‘festival of light’. The children also made comparisons of how Hanukkah is similar to other celebrations (e.g. Christmas and Diwali).
