Outdoor play is a very important part of our daily routine. We will be going outdoors in all weathers and children will be allowed to explore the environment. Children should wear appropriate clothing, such as, wellies and warm waterproof coat in winter and sun cream and hats in summer.
Beginning of the week children........
In our first week of term, we learnt all about people who help us around school. We looked at everybody's jobs and ways in which they helped us.
In our second week, we learnt all about Doctors and Nurses and how they help us and the jobs they do. We also did lots of role play in the Vets, looking after all the animals and making sure they got better quickly. We used lots of plasters and bandages!
The third week of term was all about Police Officers and the different jobs they do. We did lots of creative activities in Nursery such as decorating Police vehicles with tissue paper and creating wanted posters.
We had a very exciting visitor in week 4....the Fire Engine came to visit us! We looked at all the equipment they use and some of us even got to try on the Firemen's clothes. One of the Fire Fighters squirted us with the hose pipe!
We spent two weeks looking at Fire Fighters, and we all made our own Fire Engines using boxes and other things in Nursery. It took us a long time but we tried really hard, looking at features of the Fire Engine like the ladder and the hose.
We learned all about Dentists and looking after our teeth in our last week of term. We all got a toothbrush and practised how to brush our teeth properly. We also learnt which foods are good for our teeth and which foods we shouldn't have too much of to keep our teeth healthy.
Welcome back to Nursery everyone, hope you had a lovely holiday and did lots of exciting things. I would also like to welcome our new friends to Nursery and look forward to getting to know you all.
This half term we are learning about People Who Help Us and this week we have talked about who helps us in school. We have talked about the adult who help us and what jobs they do in school.
The children worked really hard to match the job descriptions to the grown ups around school, including Miss Singleton, Mr Bowie, Mrs Belt and the dinner ladies who help us at luch time.
This is our second week back at Nursery and we have been talking about Doctors and Nurses and how they help us to get better if we are poorly or we hurt ourselves. We also had a new role play area which was a vets surgery. We had to pretend to be the receptionist and book the animals in for their appointments, or we could be the vets and look after the poorly animals who might have needed an injection, a plaster putting onto a cut or a bandage around a poorly leg or wing. We had so much fun role playing in the vets!
At Nursery this week we have been learning about the Police and the different ways in which they help us. We talked about how they arrest people who have done the wrong thing, like people who pinch things from other people, but we also talked about how the Police help us if we get lost or if we lose something like our purses.
We have also looked carefully at the uniform a Police officer wears and labelled the different items such as their hat or helmet, their vest, their boots, their handcuffs and their badge. We did fantastic labelling! Some of the older children also had a try at writing their own labels for each of the items.
For the last week of this half term we have been learning about Dentists and why we need to visit the dentist regularly. We talked about what foods are unhealthy and healthy for our teeth, we had a new dentist role play in the classroom which we enjoyed pretending to be patients and dentists. We also learnt that our teeth are covered in germs, but our hands also have lots of germs which can make our tummies poorly! One of our activities this week was learning how we spread germs by touching other people and how to wash our hands properly using soap to make sure all those nasty germs have gone! First we painted our hand and touched our friends hand and saw that the paint was now on their hand too, we pretended that the paint was the germs on our hands. We then tried to rub the 'germs' off with a paper towel, but they were still there! We then tried using water, but the 'germs' still did not go! So we tried with soap and rubbed it all over our hands then rinsed them with water, all the 'germs' had vanished! Now we know how to get rid of all those nasty germs that make our tummies poorly! Super work everyone!
