This week we will be focusing on the story of ‘The Enormous Turnip’. During this week we will have an observation spot for the children to use magnifying glasses to look at turnips. We will also be completing lots of creative activities including colour mixing, vegetable printing, collaging and observational drawing. Over the week we will also be playing different turn taking games including ‘Pairs’.
This week we will be learning about the celebration of Chinese New Year. We will have lots of exciting activities available including making dragon puppets, fans and doing Chinese writing. We will also be doing dragon dancing, making and trying Chinese food and attempting to use chopsticks.
Over this half term we have been reading and learning about different stories including 'The Gingerbread Man', 'The Enormous Turnip' and 'The Three Billy Goats Gruff'. The children have taken part in lots of activities throughout the half term and here are some of our pictures of our learning.
Over the past couple of weeks we have been learning about 'The Gingerbread Man' story. We have read the story and used puppets to act out different parts. We have decorated and painted pictures of gingerbread men and made gingerbread men in the playdough adding pom poms for his buttons. We have also made and decorated our very own yummy gingerbread men.
This week we have been learning about Chinese New Year and why the Chinese people celebrate. We have discussed the story and learnt how the animals had a race to find out who the New Year would be named after. We made masks and Chinese dancing dragons and watched, danced and listened to Chinese music and Chinese New Year dragon dancing. We also tried some Chinese food!
For the past two weeks we have been reading the story of 'The Three Billy Goats Gruff' at Nursery. We have joined in telling the story and changing our voices for each character in the story. We have made masks of the Troll and the Billy Goats in the create area. We have enjoyed retelling the story using the big puppets with our friends too. During the last week we have also talked about size and positional language and used different sized trolls and placed them under, above, next to, on, beneath, in-between, in front and behind different objects around Nursery including ourselves and our friends! We also planted some sweet green grass for the Billy Goats Gruff to eat if the Troll did not let them over the bridge!
