In Year 2 we have been learning about how to stay healthy as part of our Saving the Day learning adventure. We worked in groups to design healthy smoothies and then made them, they tasted great!
In Year 1 we have been learning about our physical health and well being.
Special Day Foods
The children kicked off their learning by looking at different cultures and special foods that are eaten on special days (e.g. pancakes on pancake day). The children then thought hard about why it is important to ensure that we have a balanced diet and they sorted a variety of food into 'treats' and 'everyday foods'. The children also spent time looking at the eat well guide discussing each of the different food groups.
Playground games and fitness
The children have also been learning about the importance of being active and keeping fit. In PE the children learnt lots of playground games and they discussed the effects that each game had on their body. The children then created a tally chart to decided on the most popular game. The children discussed what they liked/ disliked about each game and some even wrote this down on paper.
This week the children learnt about how to keep themselves safe in the sun. The children learnt how to protect themselves by..
The children have been looking at how we keep ourselves healthy. They have thought about what makes a diet balanced, where our food comes from and why sleep is so important (did you know that the size of your bed could affect your sleep? Or that we should all have the same amount of sleep each night?).
In PSHE we have been learning about drugs and alcohol. We have discussed issues such as the legality of different drugs as well as the effects they can have on people. It has been really interesting to discuss what a drug is and why some are legal and some are not.
