We have been learning about fire safety in our PSHE lessons.  We loved our visit from the fire brigade, and we learned lots. It also gave us a chance to look carefully at each part of the fire engine which will help us to design our own.

We explored which shapes are best for wheels and investigated why.  Then we tried out different wheel designs where the position of the axle changes.  We had to decide which wheels had the best design.  Have a look at the photos below:

We listened to the experiences of a 9 year-old child whose family was caught up in the Great Fire of London.

Then we chose different events in the story to show as a freeze frame.

In our science lessons we have been exploring how solids change shape.  We predicted what would happen to our giant marshmallows if we tried to change their shape by twisting, bending, stretching and squashing them.  Of course, we had to test all our ideas out!
