This half term's 'Learning Adventure' is...
Deep in the Rainforest!
We will be learning all about the rainforest as an animal habitat as well as the geography of the rainforests and Brazil.
We very much enjoyed our Creative Context day where we transformed our classroom into a rainforest!
As you may have seen from the letter that went home, we are very fortunate to have the opportunity to be working with 'Alive and Kicking Theatre Company' this half term. They are going to be delivering some workshops for us about some South American tribes to tie in with our learning adventure. We would like to invite parents/carers to join us for the workshop on Friday 23rd November at 1:15pm. This will be a fantastic opportunity to get involved with your child's learning!
Our class novel this half term is 'Journey to the River Sea.' A lot of our writing will be based around this text. It concerns Maia, an orphan, who travels thousands of miles up the Amazon to live with her distant relatives but they are not quite what she was expecting! The wonders of the rainforest, however, more than make up for that.
In geography, we have been learning about physical and human features in Brazil.
We have been researching information and using it to write fact files about Brazil and the Amazon Rainforest.
5CS have been writing setting descriptions of the rainforest. We began by creating a soundscape of rainforest sounds which helped us to imagine we were there.
In science we have been learning about the anatomy of plants, plant reproduction and animal habitats including the different layers of the rainforest.
We created Carnival masks like they have in the Brazilian carnivals.
In art, we have been using clay to create sculptures of the famous Brazilian landmark Christ the Redeemer.
