Autumn 1

 

 

A very warm welcome back to you all. We hope that you have had a fantastic summer! The children have had a great first week back at school and they are ready for lots of learning. We have exciting things planned and we can’t wait for the year ahead.

We really value your thoughts and enjoy talking to you all on a daily basis. Our door is always open for any questions or concerns.

In reading we are learning:

- to use different strategies to read words

- to answer questions about a text

- to know the difference between fiction and non-fiction texts

- to listen to and re-tell stories

- to develop an understanding of characters, setting and main events in a story

- to predict what might happen next in a story according to the current events

 

 

 

 In writing we are learning:

- to use capital letters and full stops consistently in our writing

- to use exclamation marks for expression and question marks when asking a question

- to continue to vary the connectives we use to extend and improve our writing

- to use adjectives consistently in our writing

- to spell Year 2 common exception words correctly

- to form all letters correctly

 

 In maths we are learning:

- to count in 2s, 3s, 5s and 10s forwards and backwards

- to read and write numbers to at least 100 in numerals and words

- to compare and order lengths, mass and record results

- to recall and use addition and subtraction facts to 20

- to add and subtract numbers mentally 

- to identify and describe properties of 2D and 3D shapes

 

In topic we are learning about:

Science- Who Am I?

               Seasonal Change   

Geography- Study of Leeds and our local area.

History- 1980’s (Living memory)

Art- painting and a study of artists

DT- construction- designing, making and evaluating a product

PSHCE/SEAL- New beginnings

RE: Myself 

Computing- We are treasure hunters

Things to remember

PE: Please bring your child’s PE kit into school on Monday to be kept in school all week.

Your child’s PE kit should include:

- Pair of black shorts or black tracksuit bottoms

- White T-shirt

- Jumper

-Outdoor shoes or indoor pumps.

Books: Please return books every Thursday so your child can receive a new one every Friday

Assembly: Everyone is welcome to join Friday morning whole school assemblies and coffee mornings.
